Lake Havasu Triathlon!

Last weekend I did a triathlon in Lake Havasu. I had been planning on doing this event for months, but put off one key factor..... purchasing a road bike. This is the second triathlon that I have done and it went a LOT better this time. Last time I borrowed a bike and didn't ride until the day of the race. I didn't know how to switch gears and was getting passed by a bunch of grandmas (seriously!). I even had someone yell out at me "Switch to a lower gear," when I was struggling up a hill against the wind. With my response being "I don't know how!" This time, however, I was prepared. I purchased a bike 5 days before the race and learned how to switch gears and clip in and out of the pedals (which was super scary at first). The bike was by far my worst event because the ride was super hilly, but I survived and didn't get passed by too many grandmas!

My friend from work and I did the race together and then went back and took some pictures and sort of did some reinactments of the race. Here they are.

Before the race getting everything set up in the transition area.

My bike. It's a Scott, so I named him Scotty. (Obviously this is after the race due to the absence of clutter).

These are the ridiculous stairs that we had to climb, after running thru sand! Good thing I take the stairs at work every night.

Reinactment. This is me making fun of myself running.

Posing with my bike after the race.

Whoohoo! I'm finished!

Yes, blood was shed! My chip rubbed a little too hard on my ankle. I think next time I'll wear it a little higher, ya think?!

The London Bridge. We ran across and then back again.

In front of the water, showing off our numbers.

Basically... we swam a 500 Lake swim (in wetsuits, the water was in the 60's) against a current. Then changed, did a 12 mile bike ride in the hills of havasu. Then changed our shoes (and in my case my shorts- bike shorts are NOT cute) and ran through sand, sidewalk, up stairs, over bridges and back to the finish. I ended up 4th in my age group for the sprint. At first I was excited about this them became super bummed because I was only 1.5 minutes behind 2nd place! I was so close to placing I can taste it. Already working towards the next one, they are getting addicting. Now if only I was as addicted to serious training, maybe after snowboard season is offically over.
