Polar Splash & Dash (ummmm literally)

Last weekend I did my first duathlon or "Splash & Dash". It's a race where you swim then run. I was really excited because I am doing a triathlon in March and it's a good way to practice my transitions from event to another. This particular event was in Tucson and is known as the Polar Splash & Dash and it was. I was really excited for this event until that morning when I awoke to rain, not just any rain, but pouring rain! One thing I always hated about Tucson was that when it rains, it floods. No really, streets get closed frequently during monsoon season. Anyways, I sucked it up and swam then splashed through some puddles. It was a good time, and I'm glad that I did it.
The swim. The water was actually 80 degrees and felt amazing. It was an 825 meter swim.

Transitioning from the swim to run. Don't ask me why I kept my shoes and clothes in the locker room, because they didn't stay dry for long.

Finishing the 5K run just as the wind and rain started picking up again. I was freezing!!! It's a good thing it was only a 5K run. My legs were bright red and wind burn, it was a lovely sight.

Holy crap! This weather is ridiculous. That's what the nose flarage translates into. Hahaha.

Me and my bestie Adam the night before the race. He hosted my friend and me from Phoenix and then was our photographer for the race. He's such a good kid, one of the main things I miss about living down in Tucson. He always ends up being my photographer, rain or shine. Maybe one of these days he'll actually be in an event with me. More events to come this year.

  1. I cannot put the words 'Polar' and 'Tuscon' together. Thank goodness for the rain. Also, someday, I, like you, will be able to post a picture of myself running in a swimsuit. Maybe in the next life, but someday.

  2. Way to go! Good job! I think triathalons are my favorite. It's a lot to train for but it really gets your body in great shape!

  3. That is so awesome. I wish I were as driven as you are. I try to love running, but I just can't get there. And yes we definatly have to get together sometime.
